The Goldfields Track has received a major funding boost, with a $1.9 million state government grant designed to improve it.

It will mean the track, which stretches 210 kilometres from Mount Buninyong all the way to Bendigo, will gain new signs and improvements designed to boost visitors.
The track is the longest shared use mountain biking and bush-walking track in the state and takes in Buninyong, Ballarat, Creswick, Daylesford, Hepburn Springs, Castlemaine, Harcourt and Bendigo.

The announcement said the funding would help provide "consistent signage, interpretation and improved visitor amenity to enhance the visitor experience and move towards the vision of a world-class iconic outdoor tourism experience."
The Goldfields Track traverses four different municipalities, including the City of Ballarat, Hepburn Shire, Mount Alexander Shire and the City of Bendigo.
The track used to be known as the Great Dividing Trail.

The grants were announced this month as part of the Regional Tourism Investment Fund.
There was a total of $46 million available in this round of the funding, which will be distributed to 30 projects around Victoria.
The funds are designed to go into "shovel ready" projects that will give an immediate boost to visitor economies around the state.
A state government release said the would "deliver immediate stimulus to the impacted sector as works commence, driving visitation and creating jobs as we continue our steady recovery from the global pandemic".
The distribution of the funds for the Goldfields Track will be overseen by Regional Development Victoria.
