Officially launched on Monday, the UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy guide promotes the region's culture and traditions around food and drink, creativity and sustainability.

Access Australia Group chief executive officer Liz March, who oversees Bendigo's PepperGreen Farm, said the initiative was a "game-changer" for the industry.

"One of the things that we notice when people come to PepperGreen farm, is that they almost always say that they didn't know that we were here," she said.

"I think by putting this on the map - not only locally but in the broader sense - is a game-changer in terms of success of business and also grabbing people's interest in growing and purchasing locally grown produce."

The guide features five categories: eat, drink, buy, experience and explore, with each section filled with information around specific details, trails and itineraries.

Bendigo Tourism chairperson David Leathem said he was proud to help launch the guide.

He said with JobKeeper support ending, he hoped the guide would bring some relief and visitors to small businesses.

"We have to look at our industries that are still hit by COVID whether it's creative industries, tourism or hospitality. We have to get that demand occurring again," he said.

"Things like this guide can help connect our visitors and potential customers with those services and experiences and that is going to be critical to get them up and running as fast as they can."

The Greater Bendigo City Council mayor Jennifer Alden said the interactive guide was a "great celebration" of the food and beverage makers across the region.

"Thanks to our UNESCO designation, this guide celebrates our amazing gastronomic city and region, which is beginning to gain significant momentum," she said.

"The online site gives people the opportunity to explore the region's leading food and drink experiences, custom-build their own trails or explore existing trails, create their own favourites' list and share their experiences on social media.

"It is a wonderful showcase of the region that appeals to everyone, including tourists and residents."

The guide was created with the City of Greater Bendigo in partnership with Bendigo Regional Tourism.
