A BENDIGO woman whose sister went missing 43 years ago has pleaded to a mystery man with possible information about the disappearance to reappear.Lyn Ireland’s 16-year-old sister Maureen Braddy disappeared with her 17-year-old boyfriend Allan Whyte in November 1968. Maureen Braddy went missing when she was 16. Ms Ireland appeared in the Bendigo Advertiser in July calling on the Coroner’s Court to set a hearing date into the alleged murder of the missing teens. She said a man approached her work last month seeking to talk with her about the Bendigo Advertiser article.Circumstances prevented Ms Ireland and the man from meeting. She hopes he will come forward again.“I hoped that he would come back,” Ms Ireland said. “He knows where I work because he came in to see me.“I don’t know what he looks like, who he is, or what his name is.“I am basically just trying to work out what is going on.”Ms Ireland was eight when her sister went missing.Maureen Braddy and Allan Whyte were last seen outside the YMCA Hall and had decided to go home instead of going to another party. They were never seen again and disappeared with just the clothes on their back.Authorities treated their disappearance as a missing persons case until police declared it a murder investigation in 2001.It’s not the first time that events have prevented Ms Ireland from meeting people with information about the disappearances.“Years and years ago a guy came forward saying he knew stuff about what was going on,” Ms Ireland said.“We were going to catch up but he was involved in a hit-and-run.”A representative of the Coroner’s Court phoned Ms Ireland yesterday and told her representatives were dealing with her sister’s disappearance.Ms Ireland said she expected a coronial hearing would be held in Bendigo later this year.“They are not saying when the date will be, but they are 99 per cent sure it will be done in Bendigo,” she said.“We have just got to wait.”
