Martin carded an impressive six-under to kick off his NSW Open campaign.
The Neangar Park golfer started the day off the back-nine and opened with a birdie straight out of the gate on the par-three 10th.
He went on to birdie the par-five 15th for a two-under 34 on the back.
His putts just kept on dropping on the front-nine of Sydney's Concord Golf Club.
Martin made four birdies on the front for a four-under 31, six-under in total at 65-off-the-stick.
The 36-year-old's form in recent weeks has been at its peak, including his first tour win at TPS Sydney and a runner-up finish at the Heidelberg Pro-Am.
He sits in prime position to post another strong round on Friday to secure a spot in the weekend field of the $400,000 tournament.
Defending champion Josh Younger carded a one-under par round.
Meanwhile, Lucas Herbert tees up on Friday morning in the PGA Tour's USD$3,000,000 Corales Puntacana Resort & Club Championship.
