NAB retail customer executive Chris Boadle said about half of customers in Heathcote had only visited the branch once in the past year. He said 70 per cent of customers were also using other branches in the region.
Heathcote sits 35 to 40 minutes drive from each of Bendigo and Seymour. The town is also home to a Community Bank.
Other news:
Mr Boadle said there would be no job losses with the closure.
He said NAB would work with staff at the branch on opportunities for customer support through other branches, phone or digital channels.
Mr Boadle said customers would still be able to make deposits and withdrawals at Heathcote's Australia Post.
"We will continue to serve our customers well, however they bank with us," he said.
"The branch team will be working with customers over the coming weeks until we close, talking with them about the various banking alternatives available.
"Customers can also connect with our mobile bankers, home lending specialists or business bankers in person or for phone or video appointments."
NAB had reduced the hours of its Heathcote branch in August 2020, saying 90 per cent of its customer interactions were now taking place online or by phone.
