Forecaster Ilana Cherny said the north central parts of the state were likely to get the most rainfall. She said rainfall in Bendigo was unlikely to set the record, but would probably be decent.
Miss Cherny said Victoria's rainfall was associated with a low pressure trough dragging moisture south from NSW.
"We're really just getting the edge, and so our effects are much less significant than what is currently happening in NSW," she said.
"We're not expecting falls in Victoria to reach that type of magnitude of the 100s of millimetres in a day."
Miss Cherny said Victoria was likely to have a couple of wet days, as another trough formed. She said Monday's rainfall was likely to be heaviest in the northern parts of the state, while the heaviest falls would probably be in the east on Tuesday.
