CLUB stalwart Alan Wakefield is relishing the opportunity to play in another pennant grand final for his beloved White Hills Bowling Club on Saturday.

In a career spanning 57 years and around 800 games, Wakefield will line up for White Hills' division five side in Saturday's grand final against Calivil where he will play second in the rink skippered by Trevor Lamb.

Known around the club as "Walkie", the 86-year-old's passion for the game remains as strong as it was when he first joined White Hills at age 29.

"I just love playing the game... I love the camaraderie, competition and representing the club," Wakefield said this week.

Wakefield has won five premierships with White Hills, as well as a record six club championships, while one of his fondest memories is winning a club pairs championship with son, Ben.

"I've got lots of great memories playing at the club. Winning the club pairs with my son, Ben, three years ago was fantastic. My wife was pregnant with him when I started playing bowls," Wakefield said.

Wakefield won his last premiership with White Hills in 2009 and is expecting a tight battle on Saturday against Calivil at South Bendigo.

"It will be a hard-fought game, but I'm quietly confident that if we can produce our best form we should be able to win," Wakefield said.

"The three games we've played this year have been decided by less than five shots, so it should be a good game again on Saturday."
