Ashby, the squad trimmer, was part of the Emirates Team New Zealand that clinched the 36th America's Cup with a 7-3 victory over Italian squad Luna Rossa in front of a home crowd on Auckland's Hauraki Gulf on Wednesday.
The defenders, Team NZ entered day 10 of racing leading the best of 13 series at 6-3 over Luna Rossa and required just one race win to secure the prestigious Auld Mug for the fourth time.
After a slight delay due to low winds the action was underway.
Team NZ executed the start perfectly and took an early lead and maintained control of the race to defeat the Italian challengers by 46 seconds.
Post-race Ashby and the crew celebrated in style spraying champagne to mark the monumental moment.
"Its a pretty surreal feeling," Ashby said in a post-race interview.
"Wonderful day for the team and very proud of the whole group.
"Hats off to Luna Rossa and the whole team, they've done a stellar job and racing with them has been immense fun.
"They are fantastic competitors, hope to do battle again in the future."
Team NZ skipper Peter Burling said the win in front of a home crowd was an "unreal" moment.
"We couldn't think of more of a special environment than this, on home waters is something we're incredibly proud of," Burling said in a post-race interview.
"It means the world to us as a team and blown away by what we've achieved as a group to win another America's Cup.
"It's been an amazing experience."
As Team NZ came back into dock they were met by thousands of proud supporters.
Team NZ, with Ashby as skipper, also won the 2017 America's Cup with a 7-1 win over Oracle Team USA.
During his career Ashby has won multiple America's Cups, a silver medal at the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games and multiple world championships.
