Police believe the cars collided at 5.40am at the intersection of Stewarts Lane when a white Toyota turning out of Stewarts Lane failed to give way to a ute towing a trailer that was travelling north on the highway.
"There were only two occupants involved - one driver in each car," Bendigo Police Sergeant Anthony Johnson said.
"The driver of one vehicle was taken to Bendigo hospital with injuries. The injuries are not life-threatening."

Police, paramedics, and Country Fire Authority and State Emergency Service crews attended the scene.
Ambulance Victoria confirmed it attended and assessed a man for upper body injuries.
Sergeant Johnson said it was lucky the crash didn't result in a fatality.
"It appears at this stage that a car has failed to give way," he said.
"The ute with trailer was heading north and unable to pull up in time.
"It is very lucky it wasn't a fatal. We need members on the road to be mindful of surrounding at all time, especially at intersections.
"Yes, you might travel the road all the time but you need to be careful."
Police remain on scene and are investigating further.
