Ashes win for Bendigo cricketer

Steve Hollingsworth has helped Australia regain the Transplant Ashes in England.Hollingsworth, from Bendigo, is tourning England with the Australian Transplant Cricket Club.As part of the tour, the Australians tackled the Great Britian Transplant Cricket Club in a two-day Ashes Test at Tynemouth for the David Hookes Memorial Shield.Opening the batting, Hollingsworth made 20 in Australia’s first innings total of 7-408.In reply, Great Britain was dismissed for 209.Hollingsworth – a cunning medium-pacer – sent down five overs, taking 1-5.Following on in its second innings, Great Britain compiled 241, giving the side a lead of 42 runs with only 13 overs of the Test remaining.Opening the batting again in Australia’s second innings, Hollingsworth was at the crease when the winning runs were scored.Hollingsworth finished unbeaten on 21 as Australia raced to 2-45 off 7.4 overs, after which Hollingsworth was more than happy to boast of his Test average of 41.Hollingsworth underwent a kidney-pancreas transplant in February 2009, and is among 11 Australian players who made the trip to England.The 41-year-old has played cricket in Bendigo with Kangaroo Flat, Golden Hill, North Bendigo and Maiden Gully.
