LIKE all young cricketers growing up, Bendigo’s Steve Hollingsworth dreamed of wearing the famous baggy green cap.It has taken until the age of 41, but over the next three weeks Hollingsworth will get that unique opportunity.Hollingsworth will today depart for a tour of England with the Australian Transplant Cricket Club. It’s a tour that includes an opportunity to meet the Queen, a visit to the cricketing mecca that is Lord’s, plus playing nine games – one of which is against the Barmy Army.Hollingsworth underwent a kidney-pancreas transplant in February 2009, and is among 11 Australian players who are making the trip to England. In the lead-up to the tour, Hollingsworth travelled to Canberra last week where he and the team received their baggy green caps from Prime Minister Julia Gillard’s partner Tim Mathieson.“It’s a real thrill to have this cap,” Hollingsworth said yesterday.“Obviously, anyone who has played cricket has dreamed of wearing a baggy green cap, so I’m really excited about the next few weeks.“We’ll play nine games over there. They will be a mix of Twenty20 and one-day matches and a Test.”The England trip will take in visits to London, Newcastle, Oxford and Tunbridge Wells. The team’s first match will be against the Hambledon Cricket Club at Ridge Meadow this Sunday. On Monday the team will tour Lord’s, before a reception at Australia House with the Australian High Commissioner. The tour also includes a two-day Test match at Tynemouth against the Great Britain Transplant Cricket Club. The two clubs will be vying for the David Hookes Memorial Shield, which was established following the death of the former Australian cricketer in 2004.The shield – which is held by Great Britain – highlights the importance of organ and tissue donation.Robyn Hookes, the widow of Hookes, is travelling on the tour and will present the shield to the winning team.Joining Hollingsworth on the tour will be his wife Emma and four-year-old son Sam.“It’s going to be a fantastic experience when you consider there are plans to meet the Queen,” Hollingsworth said.Hollingsworth spent five years on a waiting list for his kidney pancreas transplant.“Not only am I representing myself and my family on this trip, but also the person and the family who I received the transplant from,” Hollingsworth said.Hollingsworth has played cricket in Bendigo with Kangaroo Flat, Golden Hill, North Bendigo and Maiden Gully.?
