A man remains in a critical condition in a Melbourne hospital following a two-car crash at Muckleford on Sunday.
The 74-year-old man was airlifted to The Alfred hospital after the crash, in which he sustained back and leg injuries.
A woman, who was a passenger in one of the vehicles, is in a stable condition at Bendigo Hospital.
She is expected to be discharged from hospital today.
4.10pm
Newstead police said they believe fatigue could be a factor in a two-car crash at Muckleford this afternoon.
Leading Senior Constable Grant Macdonald said one vehicle travelling east collided with a west-bound car towing a trailer on Castlemaine-Maldon Road.
"It appears the eastbound vehicle has veered on the incorrect side of the road,' he said.
"The westbound vehicle (towing the trailer) attempted to avoid it but the other car has struck the trailer.
"That resulted in the car rolling and it appears at this stage the driver may have been ejected. That 74-year-old driver was airlifted to Melbourne."

Leading Senior Constable Macdonald said the driver of the other car was shaken but uninjured.
A female passenger in the eastbound car was taken to Bendigo hospital by road ambulance.
"Investigations are ongoing but possibly fatigue may have been a factor," Leading Senior Constable Macdonald said.
"With the relaxing of COVID restrictions and people getting out and resuming their normal lives, it is a reminder to people to be vigilant.
"If you feel at all fatigued, pull over and stop."
The crash came as Victoria Police continued Operation Arid and focused on road safety and causes of road trauma - excessive speed, driver distraction, fatigue, and restraint non-compliance in metropolitan and rural locations.
Bendigo Highway Patrol Senior Sergeant Ian Brooks said fatigue is a major issue for central Victorian regions.
"Operation Arid is focus for highway patrol and all uniform units on road safety," Senior Sergeant Brooks said.
"Fatigue is a huge issue for (drivers in our region) and all police members will be spending all or part of their shifts on road safety.
"This long weekend is only three days. People will leave Friday and shoot back Monday and will be keen to get as much time in to their holiday as possible.
"But (drivers) must be patient, drive to conditions and remember where you are. It's better to turn up five minutes late than have your next family visit be in a trauma centre."
4pm
Two people are being taken from the scene by paramedics.
An Ambulance Victoria spokesperson said a man in his 70s was in a serious but stable condition and being air lifted to Melbourne.
"He has been treated and will be transported with back and leg injuries," the spokesperson said.
A woman in her 60s was taken by road ambulance from the scene in a stable condition with minor injuries.
Police at the scene confirmed two cars were involved in the crash.
CFA units from Maldon and Walmer responded.

Emergency services are on the scene of a crash on Castlemaine-Maldon Road at Muckleford.
Police, firefighters, Ambulance Victoria and SES were all called to the scene at 2.40pm when a car crashed off the road.
It is believed two cars collided with one rolling and crashing off the road.
Castlemaine SES attended the scene but were not required to extricate anyone from the car.
"It was called in as a one vehicle motor accident but no one was trapped," an SES spokesperson said.
"Details were then updated to a possible two-car accident. It did involve a vehicle that flipped and is off the road."
