At the completion of round one aside, Eaglehawk has largely been in the bottom half of the table.
Yet, by 6pm on Saturday evening there's every chance the Jets will be having end of season drinks and the Hawks will be planning for a semi-final clash with Huntly-North Epsom.
Strathfieldsaye goes into the final round on Saturday needing to upset the undefeated Strathdale-Maristians to retain fourth spot or hope that the surging Hawks lose to Sandhurst at Weeroona Oval.
On recent form it's hard to see either result falling the Jets way.
After a purple patch of form before Christmas the Jets have been inconsistent following the break.
Losses to White Hills and Eaglehawk put the Jets under pressure and they've struggled to regain their best form.
While their bowling has remained strong, the Jets have issues with the willow.
In the six matches they've played post-Christmas the opening partnerships have been 1, 14, 13, 0, 1 and 14.
The loss of early wickets continually puts them on the back foot and this week they face arguably the most potent attack in the competition.
The positives for the Jets is they did go within eight runs of knocking off Strathdale when they met in round nine.
Then there's the hunger factor. Strathfieldsaye has everything to play for, while the Suns can't lose top spot and they have juggled their batting order in recent weeks in a bid to give middle to lower-order players more time in the middle.
Eaglehawk's recent form is as strong as any team in the competition.
The Hawks take on Sandhurst on the back of three wins and two draws in their past five games.
Their bowling has been outstanding and with one round to go they're the only team in the competition not to have conceded 2000 runs for the season.
Last week's shock loss to Bendigo has Kangaroo Flat under pressure to retain second spot and the double-chance for the finals.
If the Roos lose to White Hills on Saturday, and Huntly-North Epsom defeats Golden Square, Flat could slip to third behind the Power on percentage.
It's hard to see the Demons upstaging the Roos after their disastrous performance against Eaglehawk last week.
After being bowled out for 34 it will be interesting to see what sort of a response the Demons deliver.
In the final game of the round, Bendigo United must defeat Bendigo to avoid the wooden spoon. Their cause has been aided by the absence of suspended Bendigo star Kyle Humphrys.
The all-rounder elected to accept an automatic two-week suspension after being reported for abusing an umpire in the win over the Roos.
