The City of Greater Bendigo has revealed plans for an expansion of sporting facilities at Ewing Park. The proposal, which is now open for public comment, would see part of Havlin Street West closed to traffic and the construction of a second sports ground adjacent to the existing facilities.Works would also include a new walking and cycling path along the Bendigo Creek bank.Flora Hill ward councillor Alec Sandner said he had been pushing for the upgrade since he first joined the council. He said it would help fill a growing need for sporting facilities, particularly for junior sports, in Bendigo.“Council is aware of the many health and other benefits that result from junior sport and we are committed to finding solutions to allow local children to participate in their chosen sports,” he said.“I encourage all interested residents to take some time to inspect this proposal and have their say on it.”User groups including United Cricket Club say they would support the plan.Comments can be sent to the City of Greater Bendigo, PO Box 733 or enquiries@bendigo.vic.gov.au by Monday May 2, 2011.What do you think of the proposal?
