THE wayward Bendigo Bank Bombers yesterday improved their VFL record to 2-1 after beating Frankston by 52 points at Windy Hill. The Bombers had 46 scoring shots in their 17.29 (131) to 12.7 (79) win, which has Bendigo sitting in seventh position on the ladder after three rounds.Bendigo was at its most inaccurate in the third quarter when it kicked 2.10.“We didn’t make the most of our opportunities, which was quite frustrating,” Bombers coach Shannon Grant said.“We missed a lot of gettable goals, which is something we need to work on during the week, especially when guys are starting to fatigue and get a bit heavy in the legs.“We just need to make sure we’re getting reward for the work the guys are doing up the field.’’The Bombers led by 21 points at half-time, before dominating the Dolphins in the second half when they added 7.17 to 4.4.“Our last quarter in particular was really good,” said Grant, who coached the Dolphins in 2009. “We played the game on our terms ... we set up really well and defensively it was probably the best quarter we played for the day.“It was good the way the guys played the game out.”Major ball-winners for the Bombers were Kyle Reimers (26 possessions), captain Ben Duscher (24 and eight tackles), Michael Quinn (24), Andrew Welsh (23) and Ricky Dyson (23).While 46 scoring shots to 19 highlighted the Bombers’ dominance, so too did the inside-50 count, which was 75-43 in favour of Bendigo. The best of the forwards for Bendigo was Ariel Steinberg, who kicked three goals, although, he was also one of the culprits for the inaccuracy, kicking four behinds.Duscher, Jay Neagle, Mark Williams, Matt Little and David Hille, who had 20 possessions, all kicked two goals for the Bombers. The Bombers return to Windy Hill this Saturday to take on Collingwood in round four.Collingwood will enter the game on the back of a 90-point loss to Werribee on Saturday.
