But at the very last moment a light breeze disturbed the surface, and a shortened trophy race was speedily set.
With all boats racing together, including yachts and dinghies, there were some exciting moments around the buoys, with the big boats trying to barge through, but no collisions occurred.
The Timpenny 670 trailer sailors fought it out all the way, finishing only moments apart, but it was Peter Martin, skippering a tasar, who took line honours, and Russell Denholm, sailing an impulse, who won the handicap by 56 seconds.
This weekend, the Mosquito Catamaran and Arrows Victorian State Titles are being held on Lake Eppalock over Saturday, Sunday and Monday, so there will be serious racing by the best, offering a pretty good show for spectators.
