Time to vote with your finger
Last week I permanently deactivated my Facebook page. One small voice can become one mighty protesting global chorus if you join. Facebook needs people. We can access information elsewhere. Let's vote with our finger and keyboard - it is mightier than the sword!

Look at the difference
I am in total agreement with Robert Smallpage's letter (February 17). At the start of the pandemic, I wrote a letter defending the Premier - well my opinion has now changed. This latest outbreak just reiterates my belief the federal government should have had control of hotel quarantine from the start. These are people's lives we are talking about.
The problem in Victoria was nobody was held accountable for the breach which was responsible for a reported 700+ deaths and the longest lockdown in the world. If someone was held accountable, the same mistakes would not be made.
The people of Victoria are disgruntled and uninformed, and all Dan Andrews can do is justify it by saying we don't know all the facts. Well tell us Dan!!!. The difference between Gladys and Dan is Gladys's plan is set up for her state to be able to live and work with the virus in the community, Dan is treating the whole state as one.

Get on top of it now
I would have thought our city leaders had better and bigger problems to contend with, such as dealing with our fast-growing and congested city. I also thought we were told not to interfere with wildlife as they are supposed to look after themselves.
Everybody can see this unwelcome bat colony has well established itself not only at Rosalind Park, but also in the surrounding residential areas, making themselves a nuisance with screeches and stinking droppings on our clotheslines, with the potential of spreading more diseases.

If we start to assist and promote these unwanted new residents, you will see in another 10 years Bendigo will have a much bigger problem on its hands because it will then be impossible to keep them under control. Therefore the proposed expenditure of $30,000 is ill conceived and definitely not in the interest of the already burdened ratepayers.

Supermarket chain not needed
A large, visible, illuminated, long-hours supermarket with a brand that is one of two that owns some 70 per cent of Australia's retail grocery market in Castlemaine is not needed. The town has two independent stores in Maxi and IGA. These traders genuinely seek local product and employees.
Other news:
The town has an independent butcher, fresh food store, wine store etc that co-exist with the two supermarkets that are to scale for Castlemaine. What are their futures? Castlemaine and its road system will choke on traffic, losing its diverse character. Woolworths shows no sign of community consideration with its scale and position - the same company building a mega liquor store in Darwin - with high levels of alcohol-fuelled domestic and social violence.
