On Wednesday night players returned to the field for the AFL Central Victoria I'm Committed pre-season tournament.
The idea for the competition is to ease athletes back into gear with practice matches ahead of the season proper which begins in the coming weeks.
"It's all about blowing the cobwebs out as it's certainly been quite a while since they've played competitively," Bendigo Football Netball League manager Cameron Tomlins said.
"It's been so long since we've had open age footy and everyone involved was excited to have one piece of normality back in our lives."
Wednesday's action saw matches between Strathfieldsaye, Wedderburn and Bridgewater.
"Everything went really well and all players and club officials really enjoyed the format," Tomlins said.
"We've had positive feedback from everyone that's involved and this is the first step towards our return to regular seasons."
I'm Committed continues on Friday night at the Epsom-Huntly Recreation Reserve with matches between Eaglehawk, North Bendigo and Golden Square.
