The rider clipped the back of a truck on High Street, near Mitchell Street, just after 5pm.
Bendigo Highway Patrol Senior Sergeant Ian Brooks said it was a low speed impact.
More news:
"It appears the motorcyclists was travelling with the traffic and as the traffic has slowed, probably for a car to do a right-hand turn, the truck in front of him came to a stop," he said.
"The motorcyclist realised the had truck stopped quicker than he thought. He tried to avoid it but ended up clipping it and falling off onto the tram tracks.
"He reacted to where he was and the position he was in the road and did a good job not to directly collide with the back of the truck.
"It was a fairly low-speed impact but he has been taken to hospital with a possible leg injury."
One lane was blocked in each direction as police and paramedics worked to clear the scene.
Senior Sergeant Brooks said the peak-hour traffic reacted well to emergency services.
"It's hard to get over 40km/h at this time of the day but people were good and moved over to give us plenty of room to work," he said.
