Ms Chesters, a scrutineer in Myanmar's 2015 election, sought to condemn the military for seizing control of the nation and for detaining political and civil society leaders.
She said the military's actions were a blatant grab for power at the expense of a democratically elected government.

Senior figures from Myanmar's ruling party, including leader Aung San Suu Kyi, were detained in early morning raids on February 1.
Ms Chesters believed the issue was one the Australian community needed to collectively say no to.
Australian political leaders spoke in support of Myanmar's democratic transition as news of the coup was breaking, including Prime Minister Scott Morrison and foreign affairs minister Marise Payne.
Ms Payne called on the Myanmar military to respect the rule of law, to resolve disputes through lawful mechanisms and to immediately release all leaders who had been detained unlawfully.
The Myanmar military cited "election fraud" as reason for the detainment.
The coup has triggered protests in Myanmar, during which several people have died.

Charges have been levelled against Aung San Suu Kyi, including allegations she violated a Natural Disaster Management Law and illegally imported walkie talkie radios.
In addition to calling on the military to relinquish power and release detained officials and leaders, Ms Chesters' motion calls on the federal government to review Australia's defence cooperation program with Myanmar.
It also calls on the government to consider "additional targeted sanctions, as appropriate."
Ms Chesters intends to table the motion on Monday.
