The Axe Creek Fire Station was broken into between 8pm and 9pm on Saturday.
Those responsible are believed to have entered by forcing entry to a side door, which was locked and had a coded entrance.
A defibrillator and a first aid kit were among the items stolen, as well as an esky for the brigade's water bottles while responding to fires.
Axe Creek Fire Brigade community engagement officer Sheryl Batrouney said those responsible for the break-in had been through both of the fire trucks.
The brigade was making an inventory of what was missing.
Ms Batrouney said most of the items that were taken had been bought by the brigade and were needed in their response to emergencies.
The brigade is still operational and ready to protect the community, but Ms Batrouney expected it would take some time for the brigade to replace all of the missing items.
"It's a real kick in the guts," she said.
"We're a very small brigade and we do rely heavily on our community."
Members became aware of what had occurred on Saturday night, after it was noted that the door to the station was open.
The lock has since been replaced and the station secured.
Ms Batrouney said the Bendigo Crime Investigation Unit was investigating.
She encouraged anyone with information to contact the Bendigo Police Station on 5448 1300. To make a confidential report, call Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000 or visit crimestoppers.com.au
