THE Bendigo Pioneers return to the field on Saturday to take on the Geelong Falcons in a clash of two winners from the opening round of the NAB League girls season.
The Pioneers and Falcons will do battle at Epsom-Huntly Recreation Reserve from 10am.
Both teams are 1-0, with the Pioneers opening their season with a 26-point win over the Murray Bushrangers, while the Falcons knocked over the GWV Rebels by 10 points.
There were no games played last weekend due to the state-wide lockdown that had been in place.
"The Falcons have always been a high quality team and the girls will need to be ready to play a high-paced, high quality brand of football," Pioneers coach Danny O'Bree said on Thursday.
"The Falcons girls have always been well drilled, so we're looking forward to testing ourselves against them this weekend."
The Pioneers have made two changes to their team, with Lexie Gregor (basketball) and Tia Davidge (cricket) out due to other sporting commitments.
Into the side come 14-year-old Eve Cail and Pearl Sullivan, who will make her debut.
O'Bree said he was impressed with the way his players handled the five-day lockdown ahead of their return to training on Thursday night.
"The girls have been doing a variety of skill-based and fitness activities since last Friday during lockdown. The girls are super keen to get back on the training track; they are an outstanding group who just want to get out there, play football and enjoy themselves," O'Bree said.
The Pioneers-Falcons game will be the first of a double-header at Epsom-Huntly Recreation Reserve on Saturday. It will be followed by the Murray Bushrangers playing the GWV Rebels at 12.30pm.
