COMMUNITY sport and recreation has been given the green light to resume this weekend, clearing the way for the Northern United and Bendigo District women's cricket and BBD midweek pennant finals to get under way.
Victoria's five-day "circuit breaker" snap lockdown from 11.59pm last Friday forced the abandonment of all community sport last weekend.
However, with premier Daniel Andrews confirming the lockdown would end at 11.59pm tonight, sport and recreation can resume.
The lockdown forced the abandonment of Monday's final round of the BBD midweek pennant season, leaving Kangaroo Flat (1st), Bendigo East (2nd), Inglewood (3rd) and Castlemaine (4th) as the four teams to contest the division one finals.
The BBD's midweek finals series will get under way this Monday, with green allocations still to be released.
The BBD's weekend pennant season will resume on Saturday with round 13 matches that feature the top four teams all playing each other - Eaglehawk (3rd) v South Bendigo (2nd) and Bendigo East (4th) v Kangaroo Flat (1st).
On the cricket field, the NUCA will play finals on Saturday and Sunday to make up for last last weekend's abandonment.
On Saturday the revived Dingee will take on Calivil in the elimination final at Colbinabbin, while Elmore will host Colbinabbin in the qualifying final, with the winner to go through to the grand final.
On Sunday the second spot in the grand final will be decided between the loser of the qualifying final and the winner of the elimination final.
The resumption of all grades in the Bendigo District Cricket Association season paves the way for the semi-finals of the women's competition to be played on Sunday, with Kangaroo Flat taking on Strathdale-Maristians Suns and Sandhurst playing Emu Creek.
On Saturday in the first XI round 16 is headlined by the showdown between top two teams Strathdale-Maristians and Kangaroo Flat at Dower Park after their first meeting was washed out.
The Emu Valley and Upper Loddon cricket associations are also clear to resume.
Also resuming will be the Bendigo Pioneers girls in the NAB League. The Pioneers will take on the Geelong Falcons at Epsom-Huntly at 10am on Saturday in round three.
