With Australia's NBA and NBL talent unavailable for the Asia Cup qualifier in Carins on February 20, selectors turned to some of the most exciting young players in the country to take on the Kiwis.
Daniels, who on Tuesday was named in the Emus' training squad for the under-19 World Cup, earned selection in the national men's team for the first time.
Based in Canberra at the Basketball Australia Centre of Excellence, Daniels is in a team of 12 that has a mixture of US college players, NBA Global Academy members and Centre of Excellene scholarship holders.
The team will be coached by Adam Caporn, who is the current Basketball Australia Centre of Excellence head coach and an assistant to Brian Goorjian for the Tokyo Olympics.
"What a fantastic opportunity and privilege for this group of highly talented young men to step forward and represent Australia in such an important game,'' Caporn said.
"It is the greatest honour in sport to represent your country and knowing the talent and character of this group, they are ready to make an important contribution and do Australia proud. We can't wait to get to Cairns and help Australia defend our FIBA Asia Cup title."
