A MAN who stole and damaged a car after taking electronics and bank cards from Bendigo residents has been jailed for six months.

Brendan Lee O'Brien, 32, appeared in the Bendigo Magistrates' Court on Thursday where he pleaded guilty to charges including burglary and theft.
The court heard on the evening of November 29 last year, O'Brien broke into a hotel room in MacKenzie Street, Bendigo.

He grabbed multiple phones, a woman's driver's licence, and bank cards.
From 7.30pm to 9.30pm that evening, O'Brien used the cards at multiple places in Bendigo including a Chinese restaurant, supermarkets, and service stations.
He spent a total of $397.20 using the stolen bank cards.
The court heard then on December 5 last year, O'Brien entered a Bendigo car park and broke into an office at the site.
He stole several items including iPads, mobile phones, and an electric bike.
O'Brien also gained access to a Toyota Camry and placed a brick onto the accelerator, leaving the vehicle running.
The court heard O'Brien stole a Renault from the site and drove it into the Eaglehawk bushland.

The vehicle became stuck in a ditch and O'Brien fled the scene.
The car was located in the early hours of the next morning. There was significant damage to the side and rear of the car.
O'Brien was located and arrested on December 10. He was remanded in custody.
Defence lawyer Luke Docherty told the court O'Brien was homeless at the time of the offending and was struggling with his mental health.
The defence lawyer said O'Brien had already spent 56 days in custody and would require some assistance when released from prison.
Magistrate Rodney Higgins told the court the offending was serious.
Mr Higgins said the biggest problem for O'Brien was finding somewhere to live, but that he would have time to sort that out while in custody.
O'Brien was jailed for six months, with 56 days reckoned as already served.
