NEXT Wednesday’s Jayco Bendigo Cup could have a strong international flavour. The $150,000 Listed event attracted 43 nominations yesterday, headed by six entries from the powerful Lloyd Williams Racing team. The most intriguing of those six gallopers being Irish imports Akzar, At First Sight, Muir and English stayer I’m Imposing. The quartet were purchased by Williams earlier this year with next year’s Melbourne Cup in mind.Akzar and At First Sight are lightly raced and are yet to run in Australia, while I’m Imposing and Muir have both won on Australian soil.I’m Imposing was impressive in winning first up over 2000m on a heavy track at Caulfield last week. The best performed Williams-owned and Robert Hickmott-trained entrant is C’est La Guerre. The Melbourne Cup nominee won the Group Three Craven Plate two starts ago and will head the Bendigo Cup (2200m) weights when they are released today.Lee Freedman also has two former English stayers entered for the Bendigo Cup.Above Average and Ajhar both had good staying form in England before being purchased by Freedman. Both are acceptors for tomorrow’s Moonee Valley Cup and appear unlikely to run in Bendigo. The Moonee Valley Cup will again have a huge bearing on the quality of the field for Bendigo’s biggest event.Ten of the higher quality entries for Bendigo are acceptors for the Moonee Valley Cup (2500m), which is worth $100,000 more than the Bendigo Cup.Local trainers Shane Fliedner and Les Robertson have entered Carbon Trader and Amerryking respectively.
