It captures so well the insanity of our refugee policies and practices.
As McDonald says and I quote "The perpetual lack of procedural integrity in the government's approach to managing this inhumane farce has only driven home its arbitrary nature."
Suddenly people who have been locked up for eight years, are being released (dumped) into the community on very temporary visas.
On the one hand we celebrate their freedom.
On the other, we worry about the expected outcome for these folk.
Unfortunately, after years of watching Mr Dutton's punitive actions in this arena, my level of suspicion and concern is even more heightened.

Architectural opportunity
Here in Bendigo, thanks to pure serendipity, we have been presented with an opportunity to achieve international recognition for architecture.
Everyone seems to agree that in the post-COVID world, employment will have changed forever - particularly office work.
If the GovHub building is paused immediately and new COVID safe principles are incorporated in the design - air conditioning to eliminate cross contamination, socially distanced office space, surfaces designed for efficient deep cleans etc - Bendigo would have a building we could show the world as the first purpose built COVID safe workplace.
Miss this moment and we'll be known as the place that built the last pre-Covid office after the pandemic.
World leader or white elephant? We can only hope.

One step at a time
I am writing this letter in response to Desmond Bellamy's letter in the Addy on Saturday, January 30.
What a cleverly worded letter starting with vaccine and ending with a swipe at all the meat eaters out there.
I understand what PETA is about and stand with you when it comes to cruel and inhumane treatment of animals.
I also understand that producing meat is very damaging for the climate and uses far too much water in its processing, water will become a valuable asset as the population grows, however, humans have been harvesting meat since neanderthal days.
We can't just stop it instantly, much like retraining workers, people need to be trained and educated on what to eat to replace protein like meat.
So right now, vaccine wise, meat processors are essential workers, much like the fruit and vegetable harvesters.
