BOM senior forecaster Christopher Arvier said significant rain and thunder will make its way to Victoria early on Friday morning, moving into central Victoria during the day.
"Between 30 and 50 millimetres of rain can be expected in central Victoria on Friday, with isolated, heavier totals of 80 to 100mm possible, with thunderstorms," Mr Arvier said.

The significant rainfall and thunderstorm event will bring a risk of damaging winds, with conditions set to ease on Saturday morning as the front moves to Victoria's east.
Mr Arvier said there is potential for the BOM to issue flood watch warnings in the northern and western catchments for Friday.
"This is an active period in tropical Australia, resulting in this significant rainfall event for Victoria," he said.
"We will also see quite persistent, humid conditions, with these rainfall totals unexpected for summer."
The Bureau also issued a severe weather warning for damaging easterly winds on Wednesday for people in parts of central, south west, west and south Gippsland forecast districts.
The winds could average 40 to 60 km/h with peak gusts of 80 to 90 km/h developing from late Wednesday about parts of southern Victoria and the Grampians, although the strongest gusts are most likely about the eastern suburbs of Melbourne, Port Phillip and the Surf Coast at about midnight.
