THE City of Greater Bendigo has endorsed 18 incoming youth councillors who will spend the next two years shaping critical decisions on the town's future.

Councillors voted in favour of the appointments on Monday night.
The new youth council replaces an outgoing council that became a leading voice for advocacy and change over its term.

It created submissions for multiple council and Victorian government strategies on youth, LGBTIQ+, education and economic matters at a time of high unemployment among the city's younger generations.
The youth council also spearheaded work on regional mental health and wellbeing programs and artwork for public buildings, as well as supporting 2019's School Strike for Climate Rally in Bendigo's city centre.
Cr Matthew Evans congratulated incoming youth councillors.
"We had the difficult challenge of picking 18 youth councillors out of 24 shortlisted applicants. Everyone who was shortlisted was worthy of becoming youth councillors," he said.
"I'd also like to take this opportunity to acknowledge those who had applied but were not successful on this occasion.
"Thank-you, sincerely, for putting yourself forward to represent this community and - I stress this - please do not be discouraged. There will always be more opportunities to serve our community now and into the future and there are never any limitations to being an active member of our community.
