V/Line has apologised to Bendigo line passengers whose travel was affected by a rail equipment fault.
"The issue has since been rectified with some minor delays and service changes expected on the line and we thank our passengers for their patience," a V/Line spokesperson said.
The fault was in the shared metropolitan network near Sunshine. It was fixed by about 10am, roughly an hour after the fault occurred.
It is not yet known what caused the fault.
Four services on the Bendigo line were affected.
The 9.14am Southern Cross Station to Bendigo service terminated early at Sunshine and was replaced with road coaches, and buses replaced the 10.20am Southern Cross Station to Bendigo service and both the 11.33am and 12.28pm Bendigo to Southern Cross Station services.
The latter two services are believed to have been replaced by road coaches because trains were out of position after the rail equipment fault.
