LOCALS across central Victoria are preparing for Australia Day on Tuesday, January 26, 2021.
Some community groups have been hard at work planning their annual events at various locations.
We have compiled a list of all the events that are being held in central Victoria.
FORMAL SERVICES
City of Greater Bendigo
Mia Mia
- Time: 8am to 10am.
- Venue: Mia Mia Mechanics Institute, 25 Kepler Street, Mia Mia.
- Official ceremony begins at 8am, barbeque breakfast and guest speakers. Free event, register here.
Elmore
- Time: 6pm to 8.30pm.
- Venue: Railway Square, Railway Place, Elmore.
- Celebration for the Elmore community, bring own picnic, chairs and/or blanket. Free event, register here.
Heathcote
- Time: 10am to 2pm.
- Venue: Barrack Reserve Park, High Street, Heathcote.
- The Heathcote RSL Sub-Branch present a family friendly, alcohol and smoke free event, with a ceremony starting at 10am. Families are invited to enjoy a sausage sizzle and children can have fun on the jumping castle. Register here.
Mount Alexander Shire
Castlemaine / Survival Day
- Time: 10am to noon.
- Venue: Victory Park, Barker Street, Castlemaine.
- Organised by Mount Alexander Shire in partnership with local First Nations community, all are invited to join in for this free community event. This event's aim is to bring everyone together in a respectful way. This event will acknowledge Australia Day - Survival Day in Mount Alexander Shire. There will be awards, presentations, a citizenship ceremony, a Welcome to Country, music, a barbecue lunch and more. Registrations and bookings are essential, click here. Boort
- Time: 9.15am.
- Venue: Nolen's Park.
- There will be a morning tea provided for all to enjoy.
Bridgewater
- Time: 8am.
- Venue: Sloan's Park, Heales Street, Inglewood.
- Enjoy a barbecue breakfast from 8am.
Calivil
- Time: 8.30am.
- Venue: Recreation Reserve, Prairie West Road, Calivil.
- Barbecue breakfast from 8.30am, please bring own chair.
Eddington
- Time: 8am.
- Venue: Community Centre.
- A barbecue breakfast will be held from 8am.
Inglewood
- Time: 11am.
- Venue: Swimming Pool, Grant Street, Inglewood.
- A sausage sizzle for the whole family to enjoy.
Newbridge
- Time: 11.15am.
- Venue: Newbridge Public Hall.
- There will be a sausage sizzle from 11.15am.
Tarnagulla
- Time: 5pm.
- Venue: Soldiers Memorial Park, Commercial Road and King Street, Tarnagulla.
- There will be a twilight barbecue from 5pm.
Wedderburn
- Time: 5pm.
- Venue: Soldiers Memorial Park, Chapel Street, Wedderburn.
- Enjoy a barbecue with your family and locals from 5pm.
Campaspe Shire
Echuca Moama
- Time: 9.00am
- Venue: Pop up Park, Murray Esplanade, Echuca.
- Video presentation and a sausage sizzle. This event is coordinated by the Rotary Club of Echuca Moama.
Girgarre
- Time: 8.30am - 10.30am.
- Venue: Girgarre Memorial Hall, 9 Morgan Crescent, Girgarre.
- Flag raising ceremony with an Australia Day Ambassador, presentation of awards, a barbecue breakfast and music.
Gunbower
- Time: 7.30am to 9am.
- Venue: Felix L'Huillier Park Gunbower Recreation Reserve, Gunbower Island Road.
- Community breakfast, coordinated by the Gunbower Angling Club.
Gunbower
- Time: 10.30am.
- Venue: Gunbower Memorial Hall, 11-13 Main Street, Gunbower.
- Flag raising ceremony with guest speakers and a morning tea.
Koyuga
- Time: 5.30pm.
- Venue: Koyuga Hall, 961 O'Dea Road, Koyuga.
- Indoor and outdoor games, sausage sizzle, annual yabby races. There will also be a flag raising ceremony.
Kyabram
- Time: 8am to 10am.
- Venue: John Pilley Reserve (Kyabram Fauna Park), Lake Road, Kyabram.
- Flag raising ceremony with a barbecue breakfast. There will be a guest speaker, presentation of awards and lots of entertainment for the whole family to enjoy.
Kyvalley
- Time: 12.15pm.
- Venue: Kyvalley Community Park, Corner Scobie and Sinclair Road, Kyvalley.
- Barbecue lunch. The pool will be open to the public and there will be lots of entertainment.
Lockington
- Time: 7.30am.
- Venue: Lions Park, Lockington Road, Lockington.
- This event is hosted by the Lockington Lions Club. There will be a community breakfast, flag raising ceremony and a guest speaker.
Rochester
- Time: 7.30am.
- Venue: Lions Park, corner Echuca Road and Elizabeth Street, Rochester.
- Barbecue breakfast with a flag raising ceremony. There will be a presentation of awards.
Rushworth
- Time: 5pm.
- Venue: Village Green, High Street, Rushworth.
- Sausage sizzle and a presentation of awards. Local ambassador, Neil Thomas, will be in attendance.
Stanhope
- Time: 9.30am.
- Venue: McEwen Place, Stanhope.
- Flag raising ceremony with lots of entertainment and a presentation of awards. There will also be a morning tea.
Tongala
- Time: 11am.
- Venue: Tongala Public Hall, Mangan Street, Tongala.
- Flag raising ceremony and a citizenship ceremony. There will be a sing-a-long, sausage sizzle and a presentation of awards.
Wyuna
- Time: 6.30pm.
- Venue: Wyuna Memorial Hall, Alfred Road, Wyuna.
- Community dinner and a flag raising ceremony.
Central Goldfields Shire
Talbot
- Time: 8am.
- Venue: Talbot RSL Park (across from the Town Hall).

Maryborough
- Time: 9am.
- Venue: Station Domain, Maryborough.
- Free pre-wrapped snacks available, ceremony and official proceedings begin at 9.15.
Carisbrook
- Time: 10.30am.
- Venue: Market Reserve, Carisbrook.

Dunolly
- Time: 10am.
- Venue: Gordon Gardens, Dunolly.

Bealiba
- Time: 11am.
- Venue: Bealiba Town Hall, Main Street, Bealiba.

- Time: 11am.
- Venue: Daisy Hill Community Centre.

FREE POOL ENTRY
Gurri Wanyarra Wellbeing Centre
- Time: 6am to 6.30pm.
- Venue: Gurri Wanyarra Wellbeing Centre, Browning Street, Kangaroo Flat.
- Enjoy the hot weather at the indoor pool, Gurri Wanyarra Wellbeing Centre. The splash park will be open from 1pm for the whole family to enjoy. Due to COVID-19, a safety plan is in place and there will be maximum capacity limits. No bookings. Gym entry fees apply.
Brennan Park Swimming Pool
- Time: Noon to 7pm.
- Venue: Houlahan Street, Kennington.
- Take a relaxing dip this Australia Day and enjoy fun for the whole family.
Faith Leech Aquatic Centre
- Time: 8am.
- Venue: 161-167 Barnard Street, Bendigo.
- Enjoy Australia Day at Faith Leech Aquatic Centre. There will be free entry all day and the waterslide and diving board will be open.
Barrack Reserve Heathcote
- Time: Noon to 7pm.
- Venue: 10 Barrack Street, Heathcote.
- Enjoy a relax in the pool and celebrate your day with locals.
