An eventful opening day of the Bendigo Pro Tour proved that the top seeds need to be on their game if they want to take home the title at the weekend.
Men's tournament favourite Marc Polmans had to rally from a set down to win his opening Group A round-robin match against Ken Cavrak.
Polmans dropped the first set in a tie-breaker before finding his best form in the second and third sets.
He only dropped two of the final 12 games of the match.
Jacob Grills was the other Group A winner on day one.
In Group B, siblings Matthew and Thomas Bosanic both suffered defeats on day one.
Matthew went down to Matthew Romios in straight sets, while Thomas was beaten 6-4, 6-2 by the experienced Brydan Klein.
The Bosanic brothers play each other on day two.
Other impressive winners in the men's draw on day one included Li Tu and Calum Puttergill.
In the women's tournament, number one seed Pranjala Yadlapalli made an impressive start to the tournament.
The Indian star defeated Australia's Olivia Symons 6-2, 6-0.
Just as impressive in Group B was former Bendigo International finalist Belinda Woolcock.
Alex Osbrone was no match for Woolcock, who won stylishly 6-1, 6-2.
The tightest match of the day came in Group C where Jasmine Adams needed two tie-breakers to edge out a gallant Cydney Crumbie.
Adams raced through the opening tie-breaker 7-0, but the second set breaker was pressure-packed.
Eventually, Adams won the tie-breaker 8-6 to clinch the match.
Group D winners Amy Stevens and Katherine Westbury are two players to watch as the week goes on. Both players overpowered their opponents on day one.
The highlight of Tuesday's action will be the debut of Maryborough teenager Ruby Rothman.
The 17-year-old received a wildcard into the women's singles and she'll start her Group B campaign against Helena Spiridis on court three from 1pm.
Day two action gets underway from 10am. Entry is free for spectators, but COVID protocols are in place.
