It was the first time a Bendigo and District team has competed in the over-50 division of the Veterans Cricket Victoria competition.
Bendigo and District won the toss and batted and posted 8-141 off its 40 overs.
Opener Trevor Sing top-scored for the home side with 26, while Barry Hopper, Jon Varcoe and Neil Phillips made 19 each. Opener Craig Green and David Letts chipped in with 15 each.
Bendigo and District's cause wasn't helped by three run outs.
In reply, Sunbury reached the target for the loss of five wickets with three overs to. spare.
Letts (2-26) was the most successful bowler for Bendigo and District.
Sing (1-10), Varoce (1-11) and Richard Murphy (1-20) were the other wicket-takers for Bendigo and District.
Best with the bat for Sunbury was Russell Matchett, who made an unbeaten 29.
Bendigo and District's next game is against South Gippsland at Korumburra on January 31.
Meanwhile, the Victoria Country over-60 side went down to Gippsland on Sunday.
Victoria Country made 4-146 in reply to the home side's 4-184.
Denis Brown (27 retired), Peter Scullie (26 retired) and Neville Gilmore (25 retired) were best for Vic Country.
