KANGAROO Flat has played a tie for the second game in a row in BBD weekend pennant after it couldn't be split in its clash with fellow flag contender South Bendigo on Saturday.
The Flat and Diggers finished locked on 76 apiece at Kangaroo Flat.
The result followed Kangaroo Flat's 79-all tie with another premiership fancy, Eaglehawk, in its previous game.
South Bendigo forced the tie after picking up two shots on the final end of the match contested between Brad Holland (South) and Cameron Wilson (Flat).
While Holland - who had a chance to win the game for South with the final bowl of the match, but couldn't get third shot - picked up two shots on the final end to tie the match, it was Wilson's rink that prevailed 18-14.
The South Bendigo rink of skipper Luke Hoskin, Wayne Marwood, Mal Darroch and Greg Sherman was in superb touch in the tricky conditions, comfortably accounting for Cameron Keenan's rink 31-10.
Keenan took to the green a day after having teamed with Ocean Grove's Grant McLaren to win the under-18 boys pairs at the State Championships in Warrnambool on Friday.
* Castlemaine orchestrated a 78-shot turnaround from its round one shocker against Bendigo.
When they first met on the opening day of the season Bendigo destroyed Castlemaine by 57 shots.
In the return bout, though, it was the Maine that proved too good, winning by 21 shots, 79-58, to keep itself in sight of the top four.
Three of the rinks were decided by four shots or less - including a 17-all tie between the Maine's Rod Phillips and Bendigo's Mitch Hocking - but it was the 26-10 win by Peter Brain over Grant Woodward that gave the ascendancy to the home side.
* Bendigo East staved off a gallant challenge from Inglewood.
The Woodies narrowly missed out on notching their first win of the season when beaten by four shots as the Beasties prevailed 77-73 in a clash where both sides won two rinks apiece.
* Eaglehawk defeated Golden Square by 18 shots led by a dominant performance from Dean Carter's rink.
Carter won 28-8 over Barry Hogan, helping to propel the Hawks to a 78-60 victory at Golden Square.
