Police say a white Ford station wagon set on fire in bushland near Marong was not listed as stolen.
Bendigo Crime Investigation Unit is investigating the fire, which two cyclists came across shortly before 10am on Saturday.
The fire is believed to have started in the early hours the day.

Police are investigating after a car fire in bushland near Marong.
Firefighters were called out to Bullock Road shortly before 10am on Saturday.
They arrived to find a station wagon in the bushland that had been set on fire.

The car was smouldering when firefighters received the call.
A crew from the Marong Fire Brigade had the fire out within five minutes.
Detectives attended the scene.
Anyone with information about the car fire is urged to call the Bendigo Police Station on 5448 1300 or to make a confidential report to Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
