Weighing seven-and-a-half pounds, Hugo was born at 1.20am on January 1.
Hugo's parents, Jessica and Thomas, said Hugo was due on December 22 meaning there was also the possibility of Hugo being born on Christmas Day.
"Once we got past Christmas we were quite happy," Jessica said. "A Christmas Day baby felt like a bit much.
"I came to get induced on New Year's Eve with the plan for it to be about a 48 hour procedure. Then it kind of all happened quicker and I had an emergency C-section at 1.20am on New Year's Day."
More news:
Hugo is Thomas and Jessica's first child.
"It's been pretty crazy and we're pretty tired now but we're just so happy," Thomas said. "The hospital staff have been so good."
"It all happened quickly. His heartbeat dropped a bit but the doctors, surgeons and nurses have been fantastic.
Hugo and Jessica have been doing well in the days since his birth.
"We very lucky. He's very cute and has been really good," Jessica said. "He's done everything he's supposed and we couldn't ask for much more.
"We were planning on having a party on New Year's Eve and for me to be designated driver and just scrape through to midnight if I had the energy but it all changed very quickly.
"Its okay, we had a better party. We were happy for Hugo be a 2020 baby but it is fitting to begin the new year with a fresh start."
