A NEW online event is set to become a permanent fixture of Bendigo's calendar thanks to a funding boost for the region's winemakers.
Bendigo Heritage Uncorked - The Unseen Series came about after the Bendigo Winegrowers Association cancelled its two annual events during the COVID-19 crisis.
The online event showcased 18 wineries and historic buildings around the region.
The Winegrowers Association has now received $20,000 Business Victoria funding, allowing it to run the online event in 2021 and beyond.
Vice president Paul Greblo said the Winegrowers Association still had to promote its members' wines, even during the pandemic.
So when COVID-19 cancelled its two main events the Strategem Bendigo Winemakers Festival and Bendigo Heritage Uncorked, it developed the new event.
Mr Greblo said funding would allow the association to get the online event off the ground, while in continued - COVID-19 permitting in 2021 - to run its two live events.
He reminded the community that local winemakers were still producing, and that now was a great time to drink it.
"The season, our current season, which began back in September, looks very very promising. Everything now's looking very good," Mr Greblo said.
