Prior to Thursday's AFL rooke draft, the Giants elected to sign Bendigo Pioneers' product Shaw as a category B rookie.
Shaw is from Deniliquin, so as a NSW zone player who nominated for the draft, the Giants could add him directly to their list after he was overlooked in Wednesday night's draft.
A speedy defender/wingman, Shaw's determination to get the best out of his football was shown by his commitment to travel the 340km round trip from Deniliquin to Bendigo every training night.
"Will played most of the 2019 season for Bendigo in the NAB League. He was on our radar, but wasn't someone we considered last year, however given the circumstances this year we think he has some real upside given his speed/endurance combination and his ability to create off half-back,'' Giants' national recruiting manager Adrian Caruso said.
The Giants wasted little time in getting Shaw into their system.
The teenager spent Thursday afternoon with club representatives and fellow draftees.
Shaw joins fellow Bendigo Pioneers' product Brent Daniels on the Giants list.
