BRILLIANT guard Kristi Harrower is still yet to sign on with the Bendigo Bank Spirit for the upcoming Women’s National Basketball League season.Pledges totalling $30,000 have been tipped in as the Spirit strives to have Harrower back in her hometown and on court for Bendigo.Spirit coach and Kristi’s father, Bernie said yesterday negotiations were on-going.“Because of Kristi’s commitments in the WNBA play-offs with LA Sparks, we are yet to settle on terms,” the Spirit coach said.“Ideally we will have Kristi available to play in our first round match at Dandenong on October 2, but LA is through to the conference championship against Phoenix or San Antonio.”The Sparks scored an 11-point win in game three to clinch the best-of-three semi-finals against Seattle Storm.Bendigo Spirit’s build-up to their third WNBL included last weekend’s practice matches against Dandenong at the Schweppes Centre in West Bendigo. In game one, Bendigo achieved an 81-73 victory. The attack was led by Lauren King, 34 points; Kelly Wilson, 20; and Jasmine Finnigan.Rangers’ import Lindsey Nash scored 19 points, and New Zealand star Toni Edmonson added 13.In game two, the Spirit fought back to force the match into overtime with a three-pointer on the buzzer to be 68-all.The Rangers went on to win 79-75, with Finnigan, 23, and Kelly Wilson, 22, continuing their fine form.A great sign for the Spirit was the return of Louise McLean from a serious shoulder injury, and Andrea Wilson and Jane Chalmers played well in attack.McLean did hurt her shoulder, but was cleared of structural damage.“Dandenong played really well to limit Lauren King to nine points, but we showed we have plenty of other attacking options,” Harrower said.“I was really pleased with both matches,” he said of the weekend hit-outs.“We had six of our senior players in court, and are hopeful of having Kristi, and another import on court soon.”Eleanor Haring is also progressing well in her fightback from a knee injury and may be able to play in four or six weeks’ time. The Spirit is planning to play a line-up featuring many of the Braves’ D League men’s squad this Sunday at the Schweppes Centre.Bendigo Spirit’s opening three games of the 2009-10 WNBL campaign will be at Dandenong, in Adelaide and in Perth.
