DAVID Parkin has packed plenty into his life.
A four-time VFL/AFL premiership coach with Hawthorn and Carlton, premiership captain with the Hawks in 1971 and AFL Hall of Fame inductee are among his achievements.
The COVID-19 enforced lockdown this year presented Parkin with an opportunity to reflect on his journey and in doing so he has penned an autobiography titled The Last Quarter Plus Time On as a thankyou to those who who have had an influence on his life.
For the printing of the 550 copies of the book, Parkin turned to a city he knows well - his former recruiting zone during his first stint as Carlton coach, Bendigo.
Parkin's book has been printed by Bart N Print, giving the company a small taste of football this season given the cancellation of the 2020 season in the region cost it a large chunk of business.
"I've had five books published previously and Bart N Print was outstanding in their support with this one," Parkin said this week.
"The book isn't being sold, it's a thankyou to all those who have helped me along the way... family members, colleagues, friends and support staff.
"I've had a wonderful life and been blessed to have met and worked with so many good people along the way. So this is my way of trying to recognise their influence on my life.

- David Parkin
"I've been working on it for a couple of years, but COVID was a bit of a blessing in that once I lost my jobs it gave me three or four hours a day to get it finished.
"The best part of putting it together was re-connecting with a lot of people when I was writing it and then being able to do so again when I distribute it across Australia, which will be good fun."
