The winner of the most popular lights display, as voted for by Bendigo Addy readers, will win a $350 voucher to Mitre 10. First and second runners-up will receive a $140 voucher and a $100 voucher respectively.
Bendigo Advertiser editor Peter Kennedy hopes the community will get behind the initiative and share some positive Christmas spirit after a tough year for everyone.
"It's been a long-held tradition for many families, driving around Bendigo to check out and enjoy the wonderful array of Christmas lights on display, and we think it's more important than ever that this continues," he said.
"Bringing back the Christmas lights competition is one way to help more families enjoy a bit more of the Christmas season, and we're grateful to Hume & Iser Mitre 10 for backing the event."
Hume & Iser Mitre 10 managing director Stephen Iser said his business was thrilled to be involved.
"The year we've had with coronavirus has been horrendous, so being able to bring some cheer to people is fantastic," he said.
"Of any year, this is probably the most important year to celebrate together."
Competition for businesses
The business community also has the chance to showcase its Christmas spirit, as part of the Be.Bendigo-supported Bendigo Advertiser Christmas decorations competition for traders.
Throughout December, business owners can get into the festive spirit and decorate their premises with Christmas-themed elements that also promote community spirit and goodwill.
