Mrs Nicholson said her duck had no maternal instinct, so they had put the eggs under the hen Iron Man - named by three-year-old Jude - to incubate, in the hopes they might hatch.
She knew one of the eggs was due to hatch on Thursday, November 26, and found the two ducklings, but discovered there were two eggs left, when she expected just one.
The ducklings are named Ender and Nadir, the meanings of which allude to the rarity of the ducklings' entrance into the world.
Mrs Nicholson said the ducklings were settling into the family very well and had four siblings.
"The chicken's really got her wings full with six ducklings," she said.
Despite coming from the one egg, the ducklings were not as small as might be expected, Mrs Nicholson said - one of their siblings was smaller than they were.
What perhaps makes this event even more unusual is that the ducklings are among the first Mrs Nicholson and her family have hatched.
This was their first time breeding ducks and their ducks' first brood.
While the family would love to keep the ducklings, they live in town and limits apply to the number of poultry birds they can keep.
But Mrs Nicholson hopes the twins can live out their days together as someone else's pets.
