MAINfm was recognised by the Community Broadcasting Association of Australia when it received Outstanding Small Station at the Community Radio Awards.

In winning the award, MAINfm was recognised for its excellent programming, commitment to their community, volunteers, sponsors and listeners, and the efforts to develop and improve the station.

MAINfm committee of management president Richard McLeish said it was the third time the station had received the Outstanding Small Station award.

"It's really exciting. We're thrilled to be recognised by the CBAA," he said. "It is a testament to huge amount of work our community puts into (MAINfm).

MAINfm's "Here Comes The Sun" Radiothon also won the Best Fundraising Campaign (small station) award. The Radiothon was an effort in June to have listeners tune in and subscribe to the not-for-profit organisation.

"We were determined to push ahead with the Radiothon," Mr McLeish said. "The easy decision might have been to put it off but we decided to forge ahead.

"It was a team decision to ignore shackles of COVID and continue broadcasting and to push ahead with the Radiothon. During COVID, it was a chance to reach more people. That contributed to the success of the campaign."

Mr McLeish hopes the success of this year for MAINfm will flow into next year.

"it's looking pretty bright," he said. "We think if we have that much success under the duress of 2020, we can achieve greater heights in 2021 with the shackles off."
