About 300,000 lightning strikes were recorded across Victoria overnight to Monday, along with some significant rain in parts.
Just over 12 millimetres was recorded at the Bendigo weather station, but some parts of the state - especially Melbourne's south-eastern suburbs - saw much heavier and, in some cases, record-breaking falls.
Bureau of Meteorology senior forecaster Keris Arndt said the next significant weather event would occur later this week.
Mr Arndt said very hot air was developing over the north of the state and, at this stage, Saturday was shaping up to be the warmest day.

Bendigo's daytime temperatures are forecast to reach 34 degrees on Thursday and 38 on Friday, before peaking at a sweltering 42 degrees on Saturday.
Maryborough is looking towards a maximum of 41 degrees on Saturday, Castlemaine 39 degrees, Echuca 44 degrees, and Kyneton 35 degrees.
However, hot temperatures expected in recent days did not quite eventuate - Bendigo peaked at 32.8 degrees on Saturday, while the forecast was for a top of 37 degrees.
