A DAY that had began looking like being ruined by rain ended up producing a memorable round five of the Bendigo District Cricket Association season on Sunday.

Two games were decided in the final over - one of them off the last ball - while a pair of centuries and a six-wicket haul were also among some brilliant individual performances.

At Weeroona Oval, Nick Gladman delivered Sandhurst a much-needed victory, belting 10 runs off the last two balls of the match to get the Dragons over the line against Bendigo in a 33-over-a-side game.

In a highly-entertaining one-day clash full of momentum swings, the Dragons had started the last over of the match to be bowled by Declan Slingo needing 12 runs to overhaul Bendigo's 4-218.

With Will Gadsden at the crease alongside Gladman, all the Dragons could muster from the first three deliveries were three singles.

When Gladman scored two of the fourth ball it left the Dragons needing seven off the last two deliveries to win.

One ball later scores were tied after Gladman launched Slingo for six over mid-wicket, cutting the Sandhurst equation to one off the final ball to win or the game would be headed for the BDCA's second "super over" of the season.

With the result of the game resting on his bat, Gladman followed up his six with a lofted drive for four straight down the ground to secure the Dragons their second win of the season as they answered with 6-222.

Match-winner Gladman finished 23 n.o. off 12 balls, with Gadsden 4 n.o.

Essendon's Gladman was one of three Premier Cricket players the Dragons had back in their side, along with Liam Bowe and Damon Egan.

While it was Gladman who finished off the run-chase, it was skipper Joel Murphy in partnership with Dylan Gibson who were the cornerstones of the victory.

Opener Murphy played an outstanding captain's knock in crunching 112 off just 90 balls with plenty of lusty hitting.

Murphy crunched seven sixes - one of which came off a Dylan Johnstone (1-58) delivery over mid-wicket that he brought his century up with.

Murphy and Gibson (45) put on 130 for the third wicket and swung the momentum the Dragons way after they started their last 10 overs needing 100 to win.

They then smashed 62 off the next five overs, but with the game looking like slipping from the Goers, Slingo (4-46) removed Murphy (caught at mid-off by Bailey George) and Gibson (lbw) in consecutive deliveries.

When Ben Leed (2) and Anthony McMahon (3) fell soon after, the Dragons were 6-197 and requiring 22 runs when Gadsden joined Gladman at the crease.

Earlier, Kyle Humphys (82), skipper Nathan Fitzpatrick (46 n.o.) and opener Bailey George (45) played the key innings in Bendigo's best batting performance of the season.

Humphrys and Fitzpatrick put on 101 for the second wicket, taking the score from 2-88 in the 17^th over to 189 in the 30^th.

* Strathdale-Maristians' renowned batting depth rose to the fore, with the Suns having looked gone against Golden Square before winning by one wicket with three balls to spare at Bell Oval.

Defending 6-147 in the 38-over-a-side game, Square well and truly had the Suns on the ropes at 8-83 in reply.

But no matter how dire a situation may seem, the Suns have an unwavering belief that they can win from any situation - and that's just what they did.

A 51-run partnership for the ninth wicket between Grant Waldron and Jacob DeAraugo brought the Suns back into the contest.

However, when DeAraugo (24) was caught by Square keeper Max Grant off Scott Johnson (1-23) it left the Suns needing 14 to win off the last three overs when No.11 Chris Sole joined Waldron at the crease.

They scored 11 runs off the 36^th over bowled by Corey Van Aken (2-26), and then when Johnson restricted the pair to just two in the 37^th over scores were tied heading into the final over and Sole on strike.

Van Aken bowled the final over and began with two dot balls, before Sole (6 n.o.) drove the third delivery over cover for two to bring up the winning runs as the Suns reached 9-149.

Waldron, who came in at 1-10 in the third over, finished unbeaten on 71, with his match-winning innings continuing his outstanding season in which he now has 325 runs and been dismissed just once from five hits.

Scott Trollope's 4-33 off eight overs were the best bowling figures for Square, with the last two of his wickets brilliant reflex catches taken by Van Aken at backward square leg to remove Sam Johnston (1) and Jamie Bysouth at gully to dismiss James Barri (0).

Earlier, the Bulldogs were sent into bat by the Suns, with their 6-147 featuring a half-century to skipper Liam Smith (50) before he was one of Sam Johnston's (3-31) three victims.

* Kangaroo Flat's Brent Hamblin produced a stunning eight-over blitz against a bitterly disappointing Bendigo United that was routed by 10 wickets at Harry Trott Oval.

Coming off 5-10 in the Roos' win over Huntly-North Epsom the previous day, Hamblin bettered that with a career-best onslaught of 6-3 as the Redbacks capitulated for just 64.

The Redbacks had no answer to Hamblin, whose six wickets featured four caught, one bowled and one lbw.

Of the 48 deliveries Hamblin bowled, all the Redbacks could muster off him was a single, a two and one leg bye.

Over the weekend Hamblin bagged 11-13 from 17 overs as the unbeaten Roos continued their impressive start to the season.

As well as Hamblin's six-for, the Roos also had Adam Burns take 3-15, starting the carnage on the second ball of the day when he had Tom Starr (0) caught by keeper Josh Collinson.

Sunday was the second time for the weekend the winless Redbacks had been bowled out for less than 100 after they were dismissed for 98 against Eaglehawk on Saturday.

The Roos wasted no time in chasing their target down, with openers Chris Barber (39 n.o.) and Collinson (28 n.o.) needing just 7.4 overs to reply with 0-69.

Collinson iced the game with a six off Billy Quirk (0-13).

* Ryan Grundy's 10^th BDCA century highlighted Huntly-North Epsom's win over White Hills at Scott Street.

Sent into bat, Grundy's 114 propelled the Power to 7-198 from their 35 overs.

Grundy's 114 came off just 89 balls with 14 boundaries and one six, with he and fellow opener Danushka Wijemanna (50) getting the Power off to a flyer.

They already had 67 on the board after just 10 overs and shared in a 104-run opening stand before Wijemanna was stumped by Jayden Sheean off Nick Wallace (1-30).

The Demons were all out for 150 in reply to lose by 48 in runs in what was a costly weekend after they also lost to Bendigo on Saturday.

Brayden Stepien (32) top-scored for the Demons, who had one stage been 1-76 before collapsing.

Sandun Ranathunga (3-29) and skipper Elliott Massina (2-17), who claimed the key scalp of Stepien caught at mid-on by Adam Ward, were both multiple wicket-takers for the Power.

* The only game that ended in a rain-affected draw was Strathfieldsaye v Eaglehawk at Tannery Lane.

The Jets were 0-14 in the fourth over when play was abandoned.
