A man has died after his car left the road and hit a tree near Maryborough.
The 74-year-old man from Amphitheatre was driving north-east on Phelan Road when the crash occurred at 11.50am.
Police, CFA and Ambulance Victoria crews attended the scene.
"It appears there has been some sort of medical episode and the vehicle left the road and collided with a tree," Central Goldfields Highway Patrol acting sergeant Craig Walker said.
"He was the only person in the car. Paramedics arrived and commenced CPR but unfortunately the male was pronounced deceased at the scene."
Phelan Road was closed for about an hour while emergency crews cleared the scene.
Police will investigate the crash and are calling for anyone who witness the crash to contact Central Goldfields Highway Patrol on 5460 3300.
There have been 196 lives lost on Victorian roads this year compared to 241 at the same time last year.
