City of Greater Bendigo staff installed the tree over Monday and Tuesday with the lights expected to be turned on before the end of the month.
Council announced last week that the annual Christmas tree light-up event wouldn't go ahead but will announce when they have been turned on so families can picnic in the park and view the tree.

"I do understand that people will be disappointed with this announcement," council tourism and major events manager Terry Karamadloudis said.
"But we feel this is the right decision to avoid large, compact crowds gathering together, particularly as restrictions are only just being lifted and we are at a critical stage in keeping our community safe and retaining low cases in Greater Bendigo and across the state."
Along with the Chirstmas tree light up ceremony, Bendigo's New Year's Eve fireworks and Carols by Candlelight events have also been called off.
