The reigning champions never let up during the first two quarters and went into half-time with an 18-point lead over the Spirit.
At the start of the third quarter both teams hit the court with high energy and put points on the board with the Spirit outscoring the Caps 25-24.
However, a regrouping from the Caps in the final quarter saw them take control for the remainder of the game.
The Spirit showed great endeavour and were confident in the second half and will look to bounce back in their next game on Wednesday against the Perth Lynx.
Carley Ernst was the Spirit's top-scorer with 15 points and 10 rebounds while Tessa Lavey put 13 on the board with two rebounds and three assists.
The Caps' top scorer was Jade Melbourne on 14 points and two assists.
