ONE man is dead after a head-on collision on the Wimmera Highway on Monday morning.
His car was travelling towards Tarnagulla when it and a semi-trailer heading the other way crashed this morning at Llanelly, west of Bendigo.
Bendigo Highway Patrol senior sergeant Ian Brooks said it was too early to know if one of the drivers was at fault.
More news:
"Speed does not appear to be a factor in this," he said.
"The investigation will be looking at the different bits and pieces of what we have around."
That included dash-cam footage from the truck and questions for a witness who heard the crash and saw its aftermath.
The man who died was the only person in his vehicle at the time of the crash, Senior Sergeant Brooks said.
The truck driver was treated for shock and has since gone to the Bendigo Hospital as part of police investigations but was not under arrest, Senior Sergeant Brooks said.
Police were with him as part of legal requirements following serious crashes.
The truck was carrying grain when the collision occurred.
The crash occurred at 9.30am, several hours after a separate and unrelated incident in Lockwood South.
Police have called for witnesses as they investigate why the 64-year-old's car left the road and hit two trees on Bendigo-Maldon Road just after 6am.
10.30am
Motorists are being warned of traffic delays near the intersection of the Wimmera Highway and Bridgewater-Dunolly Road following the crash.
Motorists should consider getting on to Bridgewater-Maldon Road to avoid delays, VicRoads has advised.
The serious collision has taken place at Llanelly, between Tarnagulla and Newbridge.
