MORE details have emerged about today's crash and the police operation that led up to it.
Officers believe it is a stolen ute linked with a number of incidents including the ramming of police cars in Melbourne.
Police have been searching for the vehicle for several weeks.
They first spotted the car in Eaglehawk about 11.40am on Thursday, Victoria Police said in a statement.
"An attempt was made to intercept the vehicle and it fled at high speed," police said.
"Police continued to monitor the car's movements in the Bendigo area until stop sticks were deployed on Howard Street, Epsom."
The ute then crashed into a tree in bushland at the side of the road.
Both a 36-year-old Kennington man and a 35-year-old Golden Square woman remain under police guard in hospital.
"They are expected to be interviewed in relation to aggravated burglary, theft of motor vehicle and an incident where a police vehicle was rammed," police said in the statement.
It is understood a number of Bendigo police units were involved both in the operation and throughout the investigation.
They included the Bendigo Crime Investigation Unit, the Divisional Response Unit, and Highway Patrol.
Victoria Police's airwing unit was also involved.
2.50pm
TWO people have been arrested and conveyed to hospital following a major police operation involving the police air wing.
The man and woman were arrested after the vehicle they were in crashed into a tree on Howard Street in Epsom on Thursday afternoon.
The police air wing was tracking the vehicle, a white Mitsubishi Triton, before the crash.
Police did not confirm whether there was a pursuit before the crash.
Police believe the vehicle is a 2019 ute used to ram two police vehicles in Melbourne on Monday.
The vehicle involved in the ramming was stolen from a Bendigo address overnight on October 21.
It had previously been seen several times in Bendigo.
They will be under police guard at the hospital.
Police could not say if or when the two would be charged.
Senior Constable Morrissey said police investigations would continue.
She thanked the media and public for sharing information throughout the investigation, which remained ongoing.
The Epsom scene has now been cleared.
2.40pm
ONE person has been taken to Bendigo hospital following a crash in Epsom.
An Ambulance Victoria spokesperson said paramedics were called to the incident on Howard Street about 1.30pm on Thursday.
The spokesperson could not confirm the condition or other information about the person.
